Preventing Back Pain >> First Aid First Aid Back and neck pain may be alleviated by using some remedies that can be found in your home. Please note, if your pain lasts longer than three days, you should visit a spine specialist.
An ice massage can help alleviate pain in your shoulders, neck, and back. It can also be helpful when experiencing back spasms. What occurs during this type of massage is the area becomes numb which slows down nerve impulses. This will help your spasms, alleviate pain and decrease swelling. The area in spasm or pain should be massaged with the ice in a circular motion for 5 – 7 minutes.
Knee to Chest Stretch
Following the ice massage, lie on your back and pull your knees up to your chest. You can do this with both knees at the same time OR one at a time. This position should be maintained for one minute.
Back Stretch
While on your hands and knees arch your back up and bring it down. This should be done slowly 5 – 10 times. This is a good exercise to be done regularly throughout the day.
